ScribeFire and edublogs.org not talking after upgrade
This is the problem with application-specific APIs - when one or the other upgrades, communications are interrupted. I've seen this with module or plug-in based architectures generally, from Firefox to Moodle to WordPress to Drupal. Just a note of caution regarding this model. Modular is good; proprietary (and hence endlessly variable) breaks that good. Mike Seyfang, Learning with the Fang, July 30, 2009.

Is Open Research a Good Thing?
My answer to the question is "yes". And not just because it results in better research (although it does). But because, by allowing us to see how researchers conduct their practice, it makes it easier to learn how to be good researchers. That's why examples such as the ones cited here are valuable. 21cLearn: Al Upton Podcast
Al Upton - whose 'Minilegends' website was the subject of controversy recently - presents at this conference in South Australia. Mike Seyfang kindly provides us with a recording, as well as talks by himself, Graham Wegner, Alison Kershaw, and others. Mike Seyfang, Learning with the Fang, May 2, 2008.
CEGSA Reflection - VISION for School of the Future
I've been on the road all day today, so I'll keep the newsletter a little short (and a little odd and opinionated, but sometimes it comes out like that) and catch up tomorrow. Anyhow, in this item, Mike Seyfang reflects on the CEGSA conference. Which reminds me that I've seen more than a few people comment on the most recent Harry Potter movie, which is pretty clearly a (caustic) commentary on educational reform. So of course our local media depicts the film as being opposed to fascism, which is a nice way to pretend the film is not criticizing what it's criticizing, but which is revealing in its own way. CEGSA Day 1 Report
I am working late tonight - very late - as I will be speaking by videoconference to the CEGSA conference currently being hosted in Adelaide, Australia. Mike Seyfang offers this report from Day 1, including a summary of Gerry White's keynote. "Gerry finished his talk with a little 'report card' for our education system. If my kids brought home a report card like that I would kick myself up the arse for being a lousy parent." Um, hm. Graham Wegner also comments on the keynote. The Cancer of DRM Infects iTunes PLUS
Mike Seyfang asks what he did wrong. The answer, of course, was to use iTunes plus. I may really like my MacBook, and really like my iPod (even though it died when I dropped in on the plane from Japan). But I will never use iTunes, not u8ntil I can download some five cent MP3s from it. Mike Seyfang, Learning with the Fang, June 18, 2007.
Re: Avoid YouTube if you wanna ReMix and MashUp
Ouch Stephen, you've hit a nerve here!! My brain has started working on several responses in parallel and I have just trashed my third draft of a post in response to yours. Having some conversation about smart ways to use Creative Commons is very important here in Australia right now - against the backdrop of proposed Copyright legislation extenions. I am working on a more considered response that should appear some time over the weekend. p.s. As for the 'broken RSS' I think I am trying to be too clever - using feedjumbler, feedburner and DNS evil to direct all my blog posts (edublogs.org, msn spaces&others) to the single feed: feed.mikeseyfang.com Fang - Mike Seyfang Mike Seyfang, , November 23, 2006.
Re: My Last Post
thanks for the kind words and ongoing support stephen - much appreciated. one of the things I am doing to pay the bills is some consulting for education.au (gerry white / garry putland &co) - leading some workshops on web2 stuff. keep an eye out for things tagged 'eduauweb2' initially from me but hopefully from their team as things warm up. oh, and you might get a chuckle out of my 'PLE' ramblings and photos via http://feed.mikeseyfang.com or http://www.flickr.com/photos/mikeblogs/tags/ple (If you look closely at one of the pics of my mac you will recognise something of yours) stay subscribed Mike Seyfang Mike Seyfang, , May 31, 2006.
My Last Post
LearnDogPup is hanging up its, um, claws? after funding for the LearnDog project ran out. Mike Seyfang writes: "Sniff, sniff, woof, woof. (out but not over)." Hang in there Mike; we'll watch for the Pup to rise again. Mike Seyfang, LearnDogPup, May 31, 2006.
Re: Annoucing Our City Podcast!
Thanks for pointing this out. This type of thing that LearnDog really loves too, from the point of view of providing recogntion services for kids. Wouldn't it be great if each and every kid who said something about their city got some form of peer / subject matter expert review of their comments... Re: E-Learning 2.0 [spooky Adelaide connection]
Firstly, let me thank you for putting the audio of your talks online so quickly and 'free-ly'. I have been devouring the sessions on eLearning2.0 and some of your articles on identity managment in recent weeks - in fact, I hope to generate some activity based on my learnings real soon now. Secondly, I was composing a little post for my personal blog and shot over here to your homepage to copy the URL for a link. What should I see but two references to my home-town Adelaide, South Australia. - Spooky! Fang - Mike Seyfang - LearnDog Mike Seyfang, , September 20, 2005.
Re: Identity Federation: Gartner Hints That Adoption Will Be Slow
This is the first time I have seen your 'idme' stuff. Had to print out both parts and will need to digest slowly! Having worked for Microsoft for 9 years I know how big the issue of identity management is and how hard it is to get federated directories working in the real world. Excellent stuff!
