Phil Abrami, et.al. - Supporting Learning Through Electronic Portfolios - CIDER
This is an interesting PowerPoint presentation describing an e-portfolio project being conducted by the Centre for the Study of Learning and Performance. The project design is based on a self-reflection model consisting of three major steps: forethought, performance, self-reflection (and then back to forethought again, to continue the cycle). Numerous screen shots; good explanation. More presentations from the CIDER workshop at the CADE-AMTEC conference are available
at the CIDER site. [

Jay Cross - One man's Net - Internet Time
Small world. Jay Cross links to a 2002 essay by Wes Cooper,
Information Technology and Internet Culture, which, drawing on Turkle, depicts the internet as an instrument for the creation of identities and of cultures. That's why the first paragraph is particularly appropriate for this paper, describing as it does the many ways of naming God the internet. I worked with Cooper for a bit at the University of Alberta and together with some other graduate students at the time explored the development of online learning From

Will Richardson - Deconstructing the MySpace Threat - Weblogg-Ed
Good post linking to and summarizing an
interview with Danah Boyd and Henry Jenkins on the subject of MySpace. Note the consistency of theme regarding culture and identity with Wes Cooper's paper (below). "As a society, we are at a moment of transition when the most important social relationships may no longer be restricted to those we conduct face to face with people in our own immediate surroundings but may also include a large number of relationships which are conducted over vast geographic distances." My own experience is a te From

Kathy Sierra - What Makes a Popular Blog? - Creating Passionate Users
With the entry of
Creating Passionate Users into the Technorati Top 100 the authors ask, relevantly, what made the blog popular. They offer one theory: "this blog tries to practice what it preaches in making it far more about you than about us." But what makes this post fun is the long list of comments that follows as readers point to the blog's images and graphics, writing style, point of view and broad appeal, among other factors, to explain its success. One man's net
This morning I came upon this wonderful introductory paragraph to Information Technology and Internet Culture by Wesley Cooper, The University of Alberta The Internet is a magnet for many metaphors. It is cyberspace or the matrix, the "information superhighway'' or infobahn or information hairball, a looking glass its users step through to meet others, a [...] From

Pomp & Circumstance
My son Austin graduated from San Francisco State with a BS in Geosciences yesterday. I'm a proud dad, feeling older, and happy for Austin. The gold cord drooped over his shoulders is an "honor cord," awarded to one grad in each department, selected by his peers. Austin probably got a better education at SF State than [...] From
